Sowing a Seed of Hope

Kelvin came to Hong Kong to study for a master’s degree and originally had no plans to stay and develop his career in the city. Now, however, Hong Kong has become the starting point for his future, enabling his dreams to take flight. “After completing my master’s degree, I returned to the mainland to work as an interpreter and translator. During my six months of working there, I flew frequently to different places as I completely devoted myself to various projects. However, I quickly began to feel like a nondescript translation machine without any real plan for the future.”

Kelvin listened to his heart and realized he would be happier in the spotlight. He wanted to find a job through which he could create value for himself, so he decided to return to Hong Kong to explore new opportunities. He began working for a multinational company in the public relations and marketing field.

“I was extremely busy at that time as I needed to fly frequently. I was spending less than six months a year in Hong Kong! It became more of a struggle and I even asked myself ‘where is my home?’ ” Kelvin became increasingly tired of flying and felt he was lacking a sense of belonging – but he had to keep working hard to earn a living.

At one point, Kelvin met up with his university professor who became aware of the problems he was facing during their conversation. The professor asked Kelvin what changes in his life he expected to see in the next three to five years. This made Kelvin think more seriously about the path he was on and enabled him to sow a seed of hope for the future.

Equipped to Start Over

Kelvin described his previous self as a person who was happy to go with the flow. “I never thought about what my ideal life should be and just followed the path that others thought was right for me,” he said. Change began to come when Kelvin discovered Amway. He developed the business on a part-time basis in the beginning but gradually began to gain a deeper appreciation of the Amway value.

“It took me some time to master the skills of team leadership, so I could understand why a number of partners left the team after a period of time,” he said. Kelvin was not prepared to give excuses for failure and was eager to find a way to achieve success. “I took the courage to identify and overcome my weaknesses and shortcomings, aiming to start over as a stronger person. As a leader, we need to be trustworthy if we want to attract others into the business.”

Kelvin recognised that there is no shortcut to boosting mental resilience. Inspired by his Amway leaders, he learnt to put people first and to lead with heart. “Before, it was not easy for me to put myself down, and I didn’t care much about others’ feelings or difficulties. Now, however, I deeply understand that, as individuals, we are all unique. In addition to opportunities, partners also need our companionship and to be able to grow together.”

Kelvin has seen that alongside the passive income, long-term protection and sense of recognition offered by Amway, the reason many people choose to stay in the Amway environment is the yearning for hope and the possibility of achieving their dream.

Teamwork – the Key to Success

“The most precious thing in Amway is the hard work and teamwork between partners who share the same goal,” Kelvin smiled, adding that the Amway value was truly demonstrated when he was chasing his Diamond goal. “The Diamond journey ran very smooth at the beginning. However, the outbreak of the fifth wave of the pandemic in March 2022 made it feel that I was riding on a rollercoaster and was hurtling down towards the bottom.” To make the situation worse, his father suddenly fell seriously sick.

“My father was in Qingdao and I hadn’t seen my family for a very long time due to the pandemic. With the strict prevention measures, it would be 10 days before I could see my father even I set off immediately.” Kelvin recalled feeling despair, as nothing could compare to the love he felt for his family, but at the same he felt blessed to have such caring partners in Amway, who helped him overcome his anxiety and get through the difficult times.

Kelvin recalled that at that point he was on the verge of giving up, but “our partners were determined to create miracles together. They complemented each other, and everyone was willing to put in more effort to reach our goals,” he said. Seeing this enthusiasm and passion among his partners, Kelvin felt very touched and realized he shouldn’t give up on his own goal.

“Although I was in the mainland, I braced myself and refreshed my mind, showing my determination to move in the right direction with a modified strategy.” The pressure Kelvin felt was relieved when his father’s heath began to see an improvement.

Building Cohesion, Creating Value

“To become an outstanding leader, we need to have a growth mindset, as well as the courage to create breakthroughs and step out of the comfort zone,” the determined Kelvin shared, explaining how he put considerable effort into building a strong and tightly knit team.“I aim to build a cohesive team that shows a strong team spirit. We have partners from different age groups and backgrounds and we are willing to show generosity without expecting anything in return. The happiest thing is to witness their growth – they are now becoming independent leaders who show good leadership skills themselves,” Kelvin beamed.To Kelvin, Amway not only brings physical rewards but also helps to cultivate one’s personality. “I feel steady and sure that I’m being the person I want to be. More importantly, I feel satisfied that I’m able to be an influential person and have an impact on the lives of others,” he said. Now his focus is not on current achievements, but on looking to the future with a bigger vision. “My goal is to help 100 friends live a better quality and more secure life in the next five years, flying high together to reach our dream.”
