Rise Above Challenges, Reach for Success — New Founders Diamond Direct Distributors Lee Kai Yan Jeff & Tsang Fan Nei

Most of us will encounter difficulties over the course of our lives. In the face of adversity, some may choose to avoid or escape from their problems, while others might just give up. “There will always be bad days in life, but the most important thing is how we change our mindset and make a fresh start,” said New Founders Diamond Direct Distributors Jeff and Fannei, who have shown great perseverance in achieving their goal. The pair sail against the wind in their attempt to reach their destination.

A “Direct Selling” Fire in Their Hearts

“I was born to be someone who belongs in the direct selling business,” beamed Jeff, who began developing Amway on a part-time basis as far back as the 1980s. “I had the idea of starting my own business when I was a student,” he explained. “I found the Amway business model to be perfect for me when I encountered Amway for the first time. Since then, I have benefited a lot from being able to improve my interpersonal relationships and enhance my communication and leadership skills.”

Jeff felt blessed that he was able to apply the knowledge he acquired through Amway in his traditional career – “it was so good that I could kill two birds with one stone!” However, Jeff later had to leave Amway as he encountered some changes while he was developing the business.

But Jeff’s direct selling dream was far from over. He waited for an opportunity to make up for his regret and later joined another direct selling business. “It was fate – the team consisting of few thousand people was dismissed in one night, and I needed to start everything all over again,” he recalled. Learning from bitter experience, Jeff devoted himself to the wealth management industry. Time flew faster than the blink of an eye and he found himself working for 23 years in his traditional career.

A Brand-new Beginning

Despite having to deal with various heavy blows, one after another, Jeff was not left stunned or defeated. “I felt confident about myself and the direct selling industry, and I learnt the importance of making the right choice. I saw that the stability of the system in a company was essential as it played an important role in establishing a business,” he explained.

Jeff added that his former partners who remained in Amway are now in leadership roles, “which proves the stability of the Amway business!” he smiled. In 2013, Jeff joined Fannei to participate in an Amway meeting and they were both deeply moved by the speaker’s sharing. “We made up our mind and became determined to develop Amway again. Our business grew threefold during the pandemic – a boost that helped us realize that Amway could be our life-long business.”

Focus on One Goal

The ability to forget can somehow be viewed as a kind of wisdom. “I am a ‘forgetful’ person in that I forget good or bad things quickly. The failure of my previous experience with Amway did not affect me, and when I joined the business for the second time I kept my focus clearly on my goal,” Jeff said, adding that he loves competition and has competed with others since he was a child. “I like the feeling of victory. When I need to set a goal, I like to add a special meaning or value to it, which helps to motivate me to work even harder,” he shared.

Jeff saw the setbacks he experienced as a marker for his own achievements. “This was just a necessary stage on my roadmap to success. Once you have made up your mind, you should make an all-out effort,” Jeff said, explaining that life is full of ups and downs and we should just focus on how to get through difficulties.

Complementing Each Other for Success

“Jeff was the one who irrigated the soil so I could thrive in the Amway environment,” Fannei smiled. The pair work closely together and play a complementary role in the team. “I think I have more in common with the new joiners so I can understand their needs in a better way,” she said. “While Jeff is at the front identifying business and market opportunities, I am working behind to provide support and answer enquiries from partners and teammates.”

Asked about the future development of the team, Fannei said that “the future belongs to the younger generation. We aim to cultivate a young team and nurture new talents, helping them to seize the opportunity to develop Amway while learning and improving their capabilities at the same time.”

Riding their wave of success, Jeff and Fannei’s Amway journey has been a cherished and precious experience, and it means a lot for the pair to achieve Diamond Direct and Founders Diamond Direct in the same year as they mark another milestone. “This is the best gift to celebrate our 15^th year of marriage.
