Established in 1938, Wing Tai Hong Marine Products Ltd has been a pillar of the seafood community for decades. It was the first to introduce abalone from New Zealand to Hong Kong, helping to make the delicacy popular among local consumers. The company also started the trend for canned abalone in Hong Kong. Since its establishment, Wing Tai Hong has always aimed to provide the highest quality dried seafood to its customers and keep this culinary tradition alive in Hong Kong.

A: As a four-generation dried seafood store, can you share the philosophy behind being the "heart of dried seafood" in Hong Kong?

W : Wing Tai Hong was established in my great-grandfather’s generation. I became involved in the business four years ago and I now work together with my father and grandfather. Our family bond is very strong. We live together and work together, and we are eager to pass on the business to the next generation so that we can keep this Chinese tradition alive and share it with more people, especially the younger generation.

A : Are Hong Kong people getting more demanding when it comes to dried seafood?

W : Information is more easily accessed in the age of the internet, so our customers tend to have more knowledge about dried seafood and have become more particular about what they want. However, some of the information they get might not be comprehensive or accurate, so when people come to our shop, we take the opportunity to share our knowledge on how to select quality seafood. We also give recipes to customers, so they have a good understanding of how to cook a selection of mouthwatering dishes. Moreover, we also plan to shoot videos and share them online. These will introduce traditional seafood cooking methods and help to raise people’s interest and awareness of Hong Kong’s dried seafood culture.

A : Does the store provide customers with personalized services?

W : We offer our customers services such as soaking hair maw and sea cucumbers.
