It is a known fact that consuming sufficient vegetables and fruits helps supplement essential nutrients for our body. However, pesticide residues on vegetables and fruits may decrease the quality attributes of vegetables and fruits, affecting our health after prolonged consumption of those vegetables and fruits as a result.
Tip 1: Clean vegetables and fruits separately
Clean vegetables and fruits separately can avoid “cross-contamination”. It is recommended to cut the produce after washing.
Tip 2: Brush the fruits
Prepare toothbrush in medium bristle and a bucket of water. Gently brush the fruit surfaces then rinse with water again. Dry the fruits at the end.
Tip 3: Clean vegetables with running water
Repeat cleaning vegetables and fruits with running water for 10 minutes. This helps prevent pesticide residues on vegetables and fruits. During washing, gently pull the bottom part of the vegetables and remove the unwanted dirt. It is not suggested soaking vegetables for more than 10 minutes as this will cause the loss of nutrients. Cut the produce at last so to prevent pesticide left on knife.
