Unlocking the Future of Health at the Amway Botanical R&D Center in China

04 Oct 2023

The US$25 million Amway Botanical R&D Center in Wuxi, China opened on October 23, 2015. It is Amway’s first research and development platform, with a focus on studying the health benefits of organic traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs).

Amway Botanical R&D Center

Everything starts with the soil

As far back as 2009, Amway scientists began selecting the best possible soils from across 40 cities in China, and it took them around three years to make the final choice for the best soil to establish the Amway Botanical R&D Center. Soil samples were certified by SGS, the world's leading inspection company, and A&L Laboratories in the United States, and the test results showed conclusively that the soil was safe, with levels of heavy metals and pesticide residues well below the recommended limits. Over the past three years, the Nutrilite team has worked hard to further improve the soil at the center to make it suitable for growing medicinal plants.

Nutrilite believes that good quality soil enables healthy plants to flourish. Healthy plants contain more nutritious phytonutrients which means that safer, more effective products can be manufactured. Customers will in turn have even greater confidence in the quality and effectiveness of Nutrilite products.

The heart of herbal research and development

As Amway’s only global – and China’s first – R&D center specializing in organic farming technology for TCM and plant extract research, the Amway Botanical R&D Center currently consists of one research laboratory, one greenhouse and a farm covering 500 acres of land. The Wuxi facility is a key part of Amway’s global R&D system and is responsible for collaborating with renowned organizations in the mainland to jointly carry out cultivation and research into TCMs and undertake projects relating to technology applications.

Looking to the future, the Amway Botanical R&D Center will focus on various projects from its quality R&D team, the superior natural condition of the farmland in Wuxi, and developing the cutting-edge technologies and equipment required to lead scientific research and methods, always upholding the company’s philosophy of “Best of nature. Best of Science.”. The R&D Center is committed to providing high-quality raw materials derived from TCM for the development of highly effective Nutrilite products. The center will also serve as a focal point for the development of Nutrilite herbal health products in the future.

Sharing the Rewards with Customers

In addition to establishing a platform for the R&D team to focus on herbal development, the Amway Botanical R&D Center also shares its research and development results to a wider audience.
